geografía urbana, procedente del latín suburbium, para designar a las zonas residenciales de la periferia urbana o extrarradio; mientras que propiamente en lengua española el concepto designa a los barrios bajos, pobres, marginados o degradados de esas zonas periféricas alejadas del centro de la ciudad.[1][2]
Las características de las zonas suburbiales o suburbanas, en el sentido que se le da en el urbanismo estadounidense, están determinadas por el componente social de su población: gente joven de clase trabajadora, que se establecen en multinúcleos menores dispersos cercanos a la ciudad y comunicados con buenos sistemas de carreteras hacia las periferias.
Una conurbación es una región que comprende una serie de ciudades, pueblos grandes y otras áreas urbanas que, a través del crecimiento poblacional y su crecimiento físico se fusionan. Tanto para la geografía como para el urbanismo, los términos “conurbación” y “conosuburbano” tienen que ver con el proceso y el resultado del crecimiento de varias ciudades (una o varias de las cuales puede encabezar al grupo) que se pueden integrar para formar un solo sistema que suele estar jerarquizado, o bien las distintas unidades que lo componen pueden mantener su independencia funcional y dinámica.
Así pues, un área conosuburbana suele componerse de varias ciudades que se diferencian funcional y orgánicamente, y cada una de ellas presenta una organización del espacio propio. Desde el punto de vista espacial, la conurbación no requiere la continuidad física de los espacios construidos, aunque es frecuente que los ámbitos suburbanos de unas y otras ciudades se contacten, enlazándose mediante las carreteras o cominos de conexión.

The Wynwood Walls was conceived by the renowned community revitalizer and placemaker, the late Tony Goldman in 2009. He was looking for something big to transform the warehouse district of Wynwood, and he arrived at a simple idea: “Wynwood’s large stock of warehouse buildings, all with no windows, would be my giant canvases to bring to them the greatest street art ever seen in one place.” Starting with the 25th–26th Street complex of six separate buildings, his goal was to create a center where people could gravitate to and explore, and to develop the area’s pedestrian potential.
The Wynwood Walls became a major art statement with Tony’s commitment to graffiti and street art, a genre that he believed was under appreciated and not respected historically. He wanted to give the movement more attention and more respect: “By presenting it in a way that has not been done before, I was able to expose the public to something they had only seen peripherally.” In 2010, building on the momentum of the year before, Goldman Properties added 10 more artists to their roster of Walls. They opened the Wynwood Doors, Tony Goldman’s nod to traditional portrait galleries and expanded the mural program outside the Walls.
